LIVE ELECTRONICS ORCHESTRA‍ ‍: FANTASY

The Live Electronics Orchestra sprung from a shared space of queer yearning to collectively imagine an ensemble practice for live electronics : to shape a container that could hold various factors of practice in a constant state of flux. Joined by dancers Alek Walent, Serra Kösebay and Gian Singh Sanghera-Warren, they form one sensitively responsive ensemble, conjuring collective space to dream.

This film invites you into the process of a new performance research project at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Where relationships to instruments and repertoire are relatively unstable, the line-up of performers and sound materials are rapidly shifting, and personal modalities of expressing and sensing are considered. From this place ephemeral frameworks can materialise and dissolve, to create opportunities that encourage collective exploration within a wide range of approaches, bringing performers together to share time and space in practice. The group aims to subvert traditional imagery and power dynamics between composer, conductor, performer, instrument and score; through incorporating bespoke technologies, inter-modal expression, emergent composition, somatic techniques and intimate collaboration with dance and movement artists. Prioritising ways of relating that support intimacy, vulnerability and interdependence - to centre the human presence and emotional connection between performers and their crafts. By holding each other with care while conjuring tangible physical and emotional states through experimental forms and collectively constructed timbres, they create visceral and evolving sound-worlds for both the audience and performers to immerse themselves in.
